They try too hard to make the bad guy, well, bad. The other dinosaurs just, lack personality. Since the main character is the only character with narration, any other character you really couldn't give two craps about. In the beginning, the main character is SUPER annoying and his family is poorly developed.
A movie which, while satisfying in some parts, falls short in others.
